Bromeliad RYDE
December 2017
A staged project.
Stage 1 - the client brief was to complete the lower backyard and create an oasis to be enjoyed around the new concrete pool. The pool was built with a viewing window so you could still enjoy the tranquil view of the pool whilst in a space below water level. A decking platform was built in this space giving the client somewhere to sit back and relax in their day bed pod.
A combination of succulent plants and rain forest style plantings gave this space the relaxed oasis feel they were looking for.
Not only was this space tranquil, but it was very low maintenance. Synthetic turf was selected to provide that year round perfect green and composite decking meant no sanding - no oiling EVER!
Stage 2 - was to create an outdoor dining and chill zone for the client. We constructed an L shaped retaining wall to be used as bench seating for the sunken fire pit area. A place perfect to enjoy on your own to contemplate life or together with friends and family for casual drinks.
Situated above this area is an outdoor dining space. Bluestone tiling was laid as a durable floor surface to both these areas as well as around the pool due to its natural durability, its non slip properties and easy maintenance. The natural cool surface is perfect for those hot days around the pool. Perimeter plantings helped to mirror and tie the two stages together.
