Eucalyptus BLAXLAND

January 2007 - 2016

This was a project of love - our first home.

Developed over a number of years and inspired by a number of ideas, we wanted to create something which was modern and earthy. A combination of curved lines, natural materials and contrasting colours.

A number of entertainment zones were created, from the expansive Australian Spotted gum deck to the sandstone flagged fire pit and daybed, which extended up the external garage wall. Native plantings complimented the rustic materials and provided layers of texture throughout the entire landscape.

Hand cut sandstone into 12", 6" and 3" heights formed the curved wall laid in random ashlar pattern swept around the backyard. Matching sandstone blocks laid as steps lead up to a circle of sandstone flagging again hand cut into rectangular shapes to provide consistency within the space.

The large level lawn surrounded with the sandstone gave the dog and kids room to run and play. The stone was softened with the large layered gardens and lit up at night giving us a spectacular backdrop to entertain and relax in.

The deck was designed to give us a space to lounge in, with a large dining and cooking space. The deck wrapped back around to the kitchen alfresco zone, featured with a large servery made from Australian hardwood, the perfect spot to enjoy your

morning cuppa.

The front yard was small but we still wanted to have it all. A dry creek bed with two timber bridges gave access from two separate driveways linked by a winding gravel path. Again we featured textures and contrasting colours through the use of layered planting. A circular day bed, water feature, curved lawns, screening timbers and plants made the front yard feel large

and spacious.

being the owners of this project gave us great satisfaction, we were able to design something functional and well thought out, both inside and out.
